I hate bumper stickers that try too hard to be clever...
Especially when they make people who happen to be close to my political bent look stupid and uninformed by extension.
I was stopped at a light on my way to campus this morning to administer an exam. The car that was ahead of me in the other lane had a bumper sticker that wasn't particularly well-placed for me to read it. For some reason, that made me want to read it even more.
Eventually, I determined that it said something to the effect of the following:
"The last nation that followed a bush spent forty years wandering in the wilderness."
I was immediately disappointed, if only because as a religious zealot (find the joke there) I know that the logical retort to the bumper sticker is.
"...because they were a recalcitrant bunch who wouldn't obey their divinely-inspired leader. Once they did, they got to their Promised Land and generally kicked a whole lot of ass in the process."
I mean, really, doesn't anyone think these things through?
On the other hand, maybe it doesn't matter because (Facetious Exasperation ON) that outcome would only be known to and appreciated by a bunch of Fundies who are blind to the truth that's in front of them. I mean, come on...it's not like anything that happened in that "Bible" thing is real anyway - the fact notwithstanding that said bumper-sticker is cribbing (half a) story from it to zing the President. (Facetious Exasperation OFF)
So much for the Party trying to get in good with people of Faith. We don't even tell half of a story right...
